Japan Tobacco (TYO: 2914), headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is a leading global tobacco and consumer products company partially owned (33%) by the Government of Japan. Established in 1985 following the privatization of Japan’s state tobacco business, the company operates through its core segments of Tobacco, Pharmaceuticals, and Processed Food. Its tobacco division, under Japan Tobacco International (JTI) based in Geneva, markets brands such as Winston, Camel, Mevius, and Natural American Spirit across over 130 countries. In 2025, JT completed the divestiture of its pharmaceutical subsidiary Torii Pharmaceuticals to focus on core tobacco operations and next‑generation products (NGPs). The group reported ¥2.84 trillion (≈ $19 billion) in revenue for FY 2024, supported by expanded market share in Asia and Europe and acquisition of the U.S. Vector Group’s combustible tobacco business. JT continues to diversify its portfolio through reduced‑risk products, global brand consolidation, and sustainability initiatives aligned with ESG standards.
